چکیده

V-band clamp joints are used in a wide range of applications to connect circular anges, for ducts, pipes and the turbocharger housing. Previous studies and research on V-bands are either purely empirical or analytical with limited applicability on the variety of V-band design and working conditions. In this paper models of the V-bandaredevelopedbasedon the classical theory of solid mechanics and the nite element method to study the behaviour of theV-bandsunder axial loading conditions. The good agreement between results from the developed FEA and the classical model support the suitability of the latter tomodelV-band jointswithdiameters greater than 110mm under axial loading. The results from both models suggest that the axial sti ness for thisV-band cross section reaches a peak value for V-bands with radius of approximately 150 mmacross awide range of coe cients of friction. Also, it is shown that the coe cient of friction and the wedge angle have a signi cant e ect on the axial sti ness of V-bands.

Ultimate Axial Load Capacity of V-band Clamp Joints

Band clamps with a flat bottomed V-section are used to connect a pair of circular flanges to provide a joint with significant axial strength. Despite the wide application of V-band clamps, their behaviour is not fully understood and the ultimate axial strength is currently only available from physical testing. This physical testing has indicated that the ultimate strength is determined by two d...

Numerical Investigation of Rotating-Stall in a Stage of an Axial Compressor with Two Different Approaches

An unsteady two-dimensional finite-volume solver was developed based on Van Leer’s flux splitting algorithm in conjunction with “Monotonic Upstream Scheme for Conservation Laws (MUSCL)” limiters and the two-layer Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model was also implemented. To validate the solver, two test cases were prepared and the computed results had good agreements with reference data. The rotating...

Semi-analytical Approach for Free Vibration Analysis of Variable Cross-Section Beams Resting on Elastic Foundation and under Axial Force

in this paper, free vibration of an Euler-Bernoulli beam with variable cross-section resting on elastic foundation and under axial tensile force is considered. Beam’s constant height and exponentially varying width yields variable cross-section. The problem is handled for three different boundary conditions: clamped-clamped, simply supported-simply supported and clamp-free beams. First, the equ...

A numerical and experimental study on buckling and post-buckling of cracked plates under axial compression load

Existence of cracks in industrial structures is one of the important causes of their failure, especially when they are subjected to important axial compressive forces that might lead to buckling. Therefore, it must be considered in stress analysis and designing and loading of such structures. In this paper, the buckling and post-buckling behaviors of stainless-steel cracked plates under axial c...
